Sir Coxsone Downbeat and the Legendary Studio One record label.

Clement Seymour "Sir Coxsone" downbeat is the Founding Father of Jamaica`s Sound systems and The Legendary Studio One Recording studio located on Brentford road, in Kingston Jamaica.

Sir Coxone began his career in his parents shop playing music for the customers awaiting. Equipped with his turn-table and amplifier, he started Jamaica`s most popular sounds "Sir Coxone`s Downbeat". He set up local D.j`s to play his sounds, which consisted of the likes of Lee "Scratch" Perry, Prince Buster, and U-Roy. He loved the rythm and blues that he heard in the United States and would import them directly from Miami and New Orleans. In 1959 he opened World disco recording studio, but with american r&b increasingly fading away, he needed a New form of Expression to keep the Island attentive to his style. In 1963 he opened up Studio One, Jamaica`s first exclusively black owned recording studio.

Auditions were held evey Sunday, and one Sunday there was a talented group with a passionate personality, this group was none other than The legendary Wailing Wailers and Bob Marley. Singers like the late Alton Ellis, Marcia Griffiths, Delroy Wilson, and Dennis Brown have all taken their prospective places in this Legendary Studio. One of the greatest groups ever to enter the Studio - One recording studio was none other than The Heptones, headed by the sweet sound of Leroy Sibbles. The Heptones are world renown in the Studio One genre as one of, if not, the greatest groups ever to Hail from Studio One. They took this sweet sound and transformed and redefined the Jamaican music Culture.

Today the legend continues, with Bitty Mcclean, Beres Hammond, Sanchez, and many more under the Name of Lovers Rock, the off-spring of Studio-One music. Duke Peckings son of the Great George Peckings, founder of Peckings Studio-One London Uk, produced and released the young blood of old school, a compilation of many artists including Bitty Mcclean, on Studio-One riddims. Biity Mcclean`s "Walk away from Love", which is a re-make of the American version, took the dancehall by storm, Bitty`s special style and unique sound is impressive and musically touching. Another highlight of the compilation is a woman who goes by the name Lady Lex. Her gift to the Duke Peckings release of young blood meets old school was phenemonal. Her re-make of the late Great Alton Ellis`s "Breaking up" was truly a recording that brought you back to the raw talent and energy of studio one, where women such as Marcia Griffiths, Dawn Penn, and Judy Mowatt showed the world that the women of this unique culture of style and sound, can equally carry the torch of the Legendary talent produced in the Studio-One era. Lady Lex captivates the listener with her meticulous style and her sound is reminiscient of the Studio-One era on a whole, an era where Passion and Spirit spoke it`s way into our hearts. She promises, as does Bitty Mcclean, to be Lovers Rock`s answer to the void left by the Studio-One Era.
