Marcus Mosiah Garvey (1 God, 1 Aim, 1 Destiny).

Marcus Mosiah Garvey was a Man of vision with a deep-seated passion for freedom, justice, and equality for black people globally. Born in Jamaica, Marcus saw and felt the impact of british colonialism and was transformed into a black nationalist as a result of the injustices that he witnessed first-hand on the Island of Jamaica. Marcus Garvey came from an enriched heritage of freedom fighters, for it was on the Island of Jamaica that the Maroons, a group of black freedom fighters led a successful anti-slavery campaign against the british that lasted well over 200 years.

Garvey developed a Nationalistic approach towards his goal of fredom from physical and mental enslavement. While living in Jamaica Garvey formed the
U.N.I.A, an acronym which stands for The United Negroe Improvement Association. It is this organization that led to the formation many years later of the N.A.A.C.P, also an acronym for The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People....!!! Marcus Garvey believed that slavery was such a successful institution, Not because of it`s physical structure, but because of it`s mental structure. The systematic approach of slavery was founded by a White plantation owner in the west indies named William (Willie) Lynch. William Lynch taught slave masters to slowly unchain their slaves physically only after securing "New" chains around their very thought process. He in-doctrinated racist slave masters with well defined and proven approach to a "New" type of slavery which he later coins as "Mental Entrapment". He used the simple strategy of divide and conquer among the slaves that would set them one aginst the other. This New system took trust away from slave to slave and was now given and received from Master to slave only.....!!! This institition caused blacks to hate one another and develop a loyalist attitude and spirit towards their slave owners. Thus was born the twin alter-egos among the slaves of the diaspora the "House Nigger" and the "Field Nigger". The damage caused by this New approach to slavery still has lasting impressions that exist today among blacks across the entire diaspora.....!!!

Marcus "Mosiah" Garvey saw and understood the cause and effects of this institution and countered it with an Afro-centric philosophy. Marcus Garvey rationalized that since Man`s origin is in Africa, it then follows that all of our Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Religious Ideals ,were all "Authored" in Africa by black and brown Men/Women of color. Within Africa itself, Marcus Garvey paid special interest to the geaneology, tradition, and culture of Ethiopia. Ethiopia has the oldest record of civilization within all of Africa, even the Mighty "Nimrod" in the Bible, who was the Founder of Ancient Babylon, can be traced through the biblical personality "Cush" to Ancient Ethiopia. The "Falasha" Jews of Ethiopia, a separatist sect of Jews, reside in Ethiopia and have an enriched culture and history there which "legend" traces to the Biblical figure King Solomon.

Marcus Garvey saw in the Ancient culture of Ethiopia, the key which could un-lock the Mental Slavery produced in the African diaspora of America and the West Indies. He took this philosophy straight to the streets of Harlem, New York when he moved there in 1916. It is there in Harlem where the ideaology and philosophy of Marcus Garvey reached it`s zenith. Garvey was able to successfully galvanize many blacks in Harlem who joined him in his pursuit of "Mental Emancipation" of Blacks in the diaspora. The U.N.I.A took off and reached the ears and eyes of many distraught blacks. A young Elijah Mohammed recalls hearing of this illustrious galvanizer of blacks, who spoke with such confidence, authority, and with such oratory magnificence. Even the parents of the late Malcolm X were devout followers of Garvey, who later became known as Garveyites, which signified their allegiance with and loyalty to, the philosophy and vision of Marcus Garvey.

Marcus organized parades in Harlem, in which he was always dressed in Military clothing, and in attendance would be hundreds of national delegates of foreign countries, who showed their support of the Ideals and philosophy of Marcus Garvey by being in attendance at his rallies and parades. Marcus rose to such a height that with financial contributions and money he raised, he was able to develop the World`s first exclusively black owned shipping and trade company, which he named "The Black Star Line". It was these components that led America to develop a special task force, aimed at monitoring the growth and progress of Black Nationalist Movements.....!!!

In 1919, a young J. Edgar Hoover, who worked for the Bureau of Investigation, which would later be renamed the "Federal Bureau of Investigation", began closely monotoring and building sophisticated surveillance around Marcus "Mosiah" Garvey. Hoover, who was known to be an arrogant out-spoken racist, began to build a case file around Garvey which he would one day use to legally (Pursecute) prosecute Garvey. The cultural awareness and self-pride that Garvey gave to blacks of the diaspora, was seen as a threat to the systematic mental slavery produced while blacks were in shackles and chains. Hoover waged an all out war against Garvey which would include grossly illegal tactics. One F.b.I. agent later acknowledged his role in sabotaging the Black Star Line fleets by inserting waste mater into the fuel systems of the Ships. This illegal action caused Garvey thousands of dollars in potential revenue. The J. Edar Hoover went so far in trying to neutralize the effects of Garvey`s philosophy, that he hired the bureau's first black agent. This agent was known to the F.b.I as agent "800".

The disloyalty of some his followers and the coruption of J. Edgar Hoover and our then government, led to the slow demise of the movement of Marcus Garvey. J. Edgar Hoover was able to produce some fraudulent criminal evidence linking Garvey to "Mail Fraud", which led to the deportation of Marcus Garvey back to the Island of Jamaica, where Garvey struggled to regain the legacy he once had. Until his death in 1940, Garvey would labor and struggle for Black unification and equality.

But today, we see that the measures that Marcus Garvey initiated led to a host of Black National movements within America such as: The Black Jews of Harlem (The Commandment Keepers) headed by Rabbi Arthur Wentworth Mathew, a Black Jew who emigrated to Harlem by way of Nigeria in Africa. Also the Nation Of Islam, headed by Elijah Mohammed, which produced great historic figures such as Malcolm X and Louis Farrakhan. Even the Reverend Martin Luther King jr. owes his inspiration to the Philosophy of Marcus Garvey. These great leaders combined to provide the environment for a Greater leader to emerge. In our struggle to obtain freedom, justice, and equality, we have recently been provided an Intellectual leader who can empathize with our plight. A leader has been elected President of the United States who may prove to be the realization of our prophets greatest dreams and visions.......!!!
